Stratford Cricket Club Launches Flood Appeal
An appeal fund has been launched on behalf of Stratford upon Avon Cricket Club following severe flooding of their Swan’s Nest Lane ground in November and December.
The heavy rain left the ground underwater for several weeks, causing damage to the square, outfield, artificial nets and equipment. The financial implications are still being calculated and fundraising events planned but – without the help of generous donations and potential aid from the ECB – the club faces an uphill battle to restore its ground and facilities as well as withstanding future flood damage.
The Stratford cricket ground has been an integral part of the town’s landscape for more than 100 years and has hosted numerous First Class cricket matches.
Jim Troughton, Warwickshire Captain and former Stratford CC cricketer, said: “It's tough enough to make ends meet for any cricket club, but when your hard work is scuppered by the Avon flooding, it makes it even more of an uphill battle.
“Stratford has produced generations of Warwickshire's finest cricketers. It's my home club of which I am really proud.
"With such a rich history, it would be tragic to see the beautiful ground at Swans Nest Lane fall victim to lack of funds.”
Any donations would be warmly appreciated these can be made direct to the Appeal Fund. A/C 02685478, Sort Code 30-98-26 IBAN GB79 LOYD 3098 2602 6854 78 or by sending a cheque to:
