Evans signs new Warwickshire contract
Warwickshire batsman Laurie Evans has committed to the LV County Champions for a further two years after signing a contract extension with the Bears until the end of the 2014 season.
Evans (25) joined Warwickshire in 2010 from his native Surrey and has represented the Bears in five First Class, eight t20 and three List A fixtures since arriving at Edgbaston. He was also a key member of the Bears team, which won the Second XI Championship in 2011.
Commenting on his new contract, Laurie said: “The strength our squad at Warwickshire gives us a great chance of winning silverware in all formats, so I’m thrilled to be part of this for at least a further two years.
“Whilst opportunities in the Senior Team have been limited for me to date, I wanted to stay with such a big Club and fight for my place. If I can keep working hard and score runs in the preseason then hopefully a run in the County Championship team is just around the corner.”
Evans was in superb form for the Bears in the 2012 Friends Life t20 group stage, scoring 146 runs at an average of 73, including a match-winning 68* not out against the Northamptonshire Steelbacks at Edgbaston.
Ashley Giles, Director of Cricket at Edgbaston, said: “Laurie has a great future ahead of him and I’m delighted that he’s committed to Warwickshire to fight to become an established member of the first team.
“He has already highlighted that he’s capable of match-winning performances in the Friends Life t20 and we’re confident that he can demonstrate this in other formats of the game and help the Club achieve more success in the future.”
