Bears help Ronald McDonald House Birmingham celebrate its third birthday
Members of Warwickshire's LV County Championship winning squad joined families and staff at Ronald McDonald House Birmingham to celebrate its third birthday yesterday (Tuesday 27 November 2012).
Bears Captain Jim Troughton along with Darren Maddy, Boyd Rankin and Rikki Clarke came along to show their support for the House bringing with them a signed team shirt with the number 3 on the back as well as the Championship trophy. Guests were also treated to a specially made birthday cake.
Ronald McDonald House Birmingham provides 60-ensuite bedrooms for the families of children being treated at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. One of the parents staying at the House who attended the party was Zoe Gibson whose four-month-old son Riley is being treated at the hospital for a twisted bowel.
Zoe, who has been staying at the House since the end of July, says: “If it wasn’t for the House we wouldn’t be able to be together as a family while Riley is in hospital. We’re becoming stronger and the House is helping us cope, Riley is also becoming stronger. The House means everything to us.”
Jim Troughton said: “It was great to help Ronald McDonald House Birmingham celebrate its third birthday and it gave me a chance to see first-hand the excellent facilities it provides for families with children in hospital.”
