Bears Trio Pen New Deals
Warwickshire CCC’s Ian Westwood, Tim Ambrose and Ateeq Javid have pledged their futures to the LV County Champions after signing contract extensions to remain at Edgbaston.
Wicket Keeper Ambrose, 29, has signed a new three-year deal with the Bears after scoring 623 runs at an average of 44.5 in the LV County Championship in 2012, as well as taking 42 catches and a stumping. He joined the Bears from Sussex in 2006 and went on to make his England Test debut a year later. To date he’s made 150 First Class appearances, including 11 Test matches.
Having both joined the Bears at the Under 11s age group and coming through the Club’s development programme, opening batman Westwood (30) and Second XI skipper Javid (21) have both penned two-year deals.
Westwood has since gone on to play 108 First Class matches, including 12 in the all-important LV County Championship season of 2012, where he scored 771 runs at an average of 42.83, including two hundreds.
Javid captained the Warwickshire Second Team to the County Second XI Championship in 2011 and has made eight First Class and three List A appearances to date.
Dougie Brown, Assistant Coach at Warwickshire CCC, said: “Tim and Ian have been key members of the senior squad for several years. They both played a major role in last season’s LV County Championship win, and to secure their futures here at Edgbaston is a great boost for the Club.
“Ateeq is a, exciting, young batsman with a great future ahead of him. He’s constantly looking at ways to improve his game and has recently returned to Australia after spending last winter there. He just needs to keep working hard and grasp his opportunity to become an established member of the senior team when it comes.”
