Domestic Cricket's biggest day coming to Birmingham in 2013

Birmingham is set to host the biggest day in the domestic cricket calendar next summer, after the England & Wales Cricket Board confirmed that the City’s Edgbaston Stadium will host Finals Day of the Friends Life t20 on Saturday 17 August.

Including two semi-finals, the final and cricket’s renowned mascot race, 2013 will be the fifth Friends Life t20 Finals Day to be staged at Edgbaston. Additionally, it will be the first of four consecutive years of Edgbaston hosting the prestigious event.

Colin Povey, Chief Executive of Edgbaston Stadium, said: “In just 11 years since the introduction of t20 cricket, Finals Day has become one of the marquee events in the British sporting calendar and Edgbaston is honoured to be hosting it for the next four years.

“I’m sure a huge number of local cricket fans will want to get their hands on tickets when we go on-sale on 1 November, but will also be keen to get behind the Warwickshire Bears throughout the qualifying campaign, in hope that we can have a home team taking part in Finals Day.”

Warwickshire enjoyed a fantastic season in 2012, winning the LV County Championship for the seventh time and narrowly missing out on the Clydesdale Bank 40 title in the final at Lords against Hampshire, who also took the Friends Life t20 title with victory over Yorkshire in the 2012 Final in Cardiff.

Ian Taylor, Commercial Director, Marketing Birmingham said: “Birmingham has been treated to some memorable and dramatic sporting moments in recent summers, including world-class athletics at the Alexander Stadium and the Wimbledon warm-up tennis event at the Edgbaston Priory Club.

“Friends Life t20 Finals Day is always a special day in the city’s sporting calendar, with fans coming from across the country to enjoy both domestic cricket’s biggest occasion and Birmingham’s unique leisure offer.

“With Edgbaston Stadium also hosting the ICC Champions Trophy Final in 2013, it is a further endorsement of the city’s reputation as the home of sport in this country.”

Tickets will go on General Sale for Friends Life t20 Finals Day from www.edgbaston.com and the 24-hour ticket hotline from 10am on Thursday 1 November. Fans that book before 31 January will receive an early bird discount.

In advance, Warwickshire Members receive a one-week priority window to reserve their tickets from the Edgbaston Shop & Ticket Office from Thursday 25 October.
