Richard Johnson 1 was out just before lunch giving Nick Harrison his first Championship wicket, but with Chopra 179* and Clarke 10* the Bears lunched on 320-4 from 102 overs , requiring thirty more runs from eight overs to secure an important fourth batting point.

Day 1

Worcestershire won the toss at New Rd and chose to bat on an overcast morning and were soon regretting the decision as they collapsed to 17-5 inside the opening thirteen overs.

Mitchell 2 was first to go, lbw to Wright who then had Pardoe caught by Chopra at slip without scoring.

Barker had the dangerous Phil Hughes 10 caught by Clarke at slip and Moeen Ali 1 edged to Johnson and the trail of wickets continued as Wright removed Kervezee 5 and Cox 4

Wright 5-24 and Barker 5-36 bowled unchanged throughout the session.

After lunch Varun Chopra 61* and Ian Westwood 46* quickly passed the Worcestershire total and progressed to tea on 114-0 with a lead of fifty four but there were a couple of setbacks in the first forty minutes of the final session, as both Westwood 54 and Porterfield 0 were caught at slip by Mitchell off Moeen Ali, but Jim Troughton 29* and Chopra 115*, his third century of the season, took the ears to the close on 215-2 with a lead of 155 and the knoweldge that 4 batting points and a victory from this match would secure the Bears' first Championship title for 8 years.
